On Friday, April 28th UConn Early College Experience and the UConn French department invite all certified UConn ECE French instructors to attend the annual professional development workshop.
Please park in the NORTH or SOUTH parking garage and bring your ticket from the garage for a validation stamp. If you park elsewhere you may be ticketed or towed. For a map please see: www.maps.uconn.edu.

8:30-9:00 registration and continental breakfast
9am Clémence Lucchini, Pauline Levy Valensi and Daphnée Yiannaki, (Teaching Assistants in French, UConn) will talk about their experience as instructors and students. They will discuss how they view the differences between French and American cultures and educations.
10am Valérie Saugéra (Associate Professor of French Studies, UConn) will present a writing project based on Sophie Calle’s Prenez soin de vous.
11am Cheikh M. Ndiaye (Associate Professor of French and Francophone Studies, Union College) will present Birago Diop’s poem « Le Souffle des ancêtres ».
12–1pm Lunch
Jennifer Terni will provide some information about the new UConn French/Engineering program, opening in the Fall 2018.
1pm Michèle Bacholle-Bošković (Professor of French Studies, Eastern Connecticut State University) will explore the links between photography and writing, for 3 authors: Annie Ernaux, Isabelle Monnin and Ransom Riggs.

Valérie Saugéra
Cet atelier présentera un projet d’écriture inspiré du livre et de l’installation de Sophie Calle, Prenez soin de vous. Il discutera l’instrumentation du processus d’écriture et offrira en plus un petit inventaire de sujets d’écriture.
Cheikh M. Ndiaye
Ma presentation portera sur le poème de Birago Diop, « Le Souffle des ancêtres», dont nous discuterons, de façon interactive, de la forme et du fond. Le poème a été publié dans le recueil Leurres et lueurs en 1960 par les éditions Présence Africaine. Birago (1906-1989), vétérinaire de formation (avait fait l’école de médecine vétérinaire à Toulouse) s’était investi dans la littérature en tant que poète et conteur. Il était très connu aussi pour son rôle dans le mouvement de la Négritude. Ce poème-ci touche particulièrement à la dimension spirituelle (métaphysique) de l’Afrique et au sujet de l’environnement (l’homme et la Nature). Le format de ma présentation touchera aussi à l’intégration de la technologie dans le contexte de l’éducation.

L’usage de la photographie en littérature contemporaine et en classe de français
Visuelles ou en prose (décrites), les photos occupent une place de choix en littérature. Illustration du texte, moteur de l’intrigue ou encore catalyseur de mémoire, la photographie ouvre avec le texte un espace dialogique toujours en renouvellement.
Cette communication abordera les usages de la photo que font Annie Ernaux dans son entreprise ph-auto-bio-graphique et Isabelle Monnin et Ransom Riggs dans leurs romans. Des pistes pédagogiques seront offertes qui suivront les axes autobiographiques et fictionnels.

UConn Early College Experience (ECE) is a concurrent enrollment program that allows motivated high school students to take UConn courses at their high schools for both high school and college credit. Every course taken through UConn ECE is equivalent to the same course at the University of Connecticut. Students benefit by taking college courses in a setting that is both familiar and conducive to learning.
High school instructors who have been certified through the University of Connecticut teach UConn ECE courses.
